My photo
Jenna
My name is Jenna Grimbeek. I am 18 years old and am currently studying jewellery design and manufacture at CPUT in Cape Town. I am now in first year and have been fascinated with the process of making jewellery for years. I did sculpture at school and am very enthusiastic about constructing interesting designs with my hands.

Please answer the following questions by Thursday 10 March:

Define; Learner/learning

A learner is someone in the process of learning a new skill, the gathering of information and understanding of said information.

Define;Teacher/teaching

A teacher is someone full of knowledge about the subject they are teaching. They enjoy sharing their knowledge and wisdom with the learners in their class.

What motivates you to learn?

My will to learn comes from wanting to make something of myself in life. Wanting to enjoy my life and wanting to live a comfortable lifestyle.

The love for art, learning new and differnt skill everywhere i go and wanting to be able to support my familly one day.

How do you learn?

Everyone has a differnt way of learning. I learn by seeing images and writing information down (taking notes.) I dont learn verbally.

How do you know you undestand something?

If i can teach other people about what i have learnt with out pausing and getting confused i know that i have a good understanding of the information i am trying to teach.

INFECTING THE CITY

I found Infecting the city very interesting and inspiring. The whole idea behind it (using recyled goods to make art) is fantastic, i really enjoy the theme... However i found that some of the art there was too simple and did not have enought thought put into it. For rxample the rubbish collected from 40 homes... A brilliant idea to show us how much rubbish comes out of each household but the could have made it more interesting. Instead of just displaying the rubbish in a pile with a net over it... they could have made sculptures out of the rubbish to make it more creativ yet still get the message across.

If i had to make jewellery for infecting the city i would used recyled materials such as bottle caps, tins and the tabs you get off the top of coke tins. Kat, Gene and I actually did this last year for a business project. I will post some images for you to look at.
